Intercom publishes three plans and one usage meter. Read first-hand from intercom.com/pricing on 16 September 2026, a Full seat costs $29 a month on Essential, $85 on Advanced and $132 on Expert when you pay annually, and every plan bills Fin AI Agent separately at $0.99 per outcome. There is no platform fee beyond the seat, the minimum to start is one Full seat, and the trial runs 14 days without a card.

Intercom runs two price books at the same URL and shows you one of them. The rendered page defaults to annual billing, which is where $29, $85 and $132 come from. The monthly prices sit in the page's own structured data as Offer objects, and they are $39, $99 and $139. Work the discount out per tier and something strange falls out: annual saves 25.6 percent on Essential, 14.1 percent on Advanced and 5.0 percent on Expert. The annual discount shrinks as the plan gets more expensive, which is the reverse of how volume pricing usually works. The cheapest plan is the one where committing to a year is worth the most.

The line to read twice is the definition of an outcome, because that is the thing you are buying. Intercom counts one when the customer confirms the issue is resolved, or when they simply stop asking after Fin replies, or when Fin completes a workflow, and its own FAQ adds the words "including handoffs". A handoff is the moment Fin gives up and passes the conversation to a person. Set that against Zendesk, which defines an automated resolution as one closed "without any escalation to a human agent" and charges nothing when its bot escalates. On identical traffic at an identical deflection rate, Intercom bills for conversations Zendesk does not. You are charged once per conversation either way, so the exposure is bounded, but budget your escalation rate as billable volume rather than as the part the software failed to do.

Three add-ons sit on top, each with its own allowance. Pro is $99 a month and includes analysis of 1,000 conversations plus 2,000 Operator credits, with further credits at $0.01 each, so the included credits are worth $20 and the remaining $79 buys the features around them. Copilot is $29 per agent per month billed annually or $35 billed monthly for unlimited use, and every agent already gets 10 free Copilot conversations a month before they need to buy it. Proactive Support Plus is $99 a month including 500 messages, which is 19.8 cents a message at the floor. Note that Copilot's annual discount of 17.1 percent is more than three times the 5.0 percent Intercom gives on an Expert seat.

There are two ways in and they have different floors. On the platform, one Essential seat is $29 a month annually with Fin usage pay as you go on top. Taking Fin to a helpdesk you already run, Salesforce included, removes the seat cost entirely but adds a minimum monthly commitment Intercom gives as 50 outcomes, which at $0.99 is $49.50 a month. The seatless option therefore starts about 1.7 times higher than the seated one. Neither path needs a contract on Essential or Advanced, and early-stage startups can get up to 93 percent off plus a year of Fin through the Early Stage program.

Put a real team through it. Five agents on Advanced annual is $425 a month in seats. Give them 2,000 conversations a month and assume Fin resolves 30 percent, which is conservative against the 50 percent resolution rate Intercom publishes from its customer Robin, and that is 600 outcomes at $0.99, or $594. Add Copilot for all five at $145. The bill is $1,164 against a $425 sticker, and every improvement in deflection pushes it up. MessageAgent takes the other side of that trade: $79, $199 or $499 flat a month, carrier and Meta fees passed through at cost, nothing charged per resolution. At $0.99 an outcome, Intercom's Fin meter on its own reaches our $199 Growth plan at 201 resolved conversations a month, and Growth covers 5,000. An Intercom outcome and one of our AI conversations are not counted identically, so treat that as the shape of the curve rather than a like-for-like quote.

Intercom pricing: plans, seats, Fin outcomes and add-ons

Read first-hand from intercom.com/pricing on 16 September 2026 with the currency in US Dollars. Annual seat prices are the ones rendered on the page; the monthly prices come from the same page's structured data. These are Intercom's own published figures, not estimates, and Intercom can change them, so confirm on your order form.

What you get

Everything one AI agent handles

1

A handoff does not cost you anything here

Intercom counts a completed workflow as a billable outcome, handoffs included, so the conversations Fin could not finish still appear on the invoice. We charge nothing per resolution and nothing per escalation, so the cases that reach a human cost you the same as the ones that do not.

2

Getting better at support does not raise the bill

Under per-outcome billing, every point of deflection you win is a point of spend you add. A flat tier inverts that. Improving your agent lowers your cost per contact instead of increasing your monthly invoice.

3

One price, not three meters and three allowances

Intercom stacks a seat price, an outcome meter, and add-ons that each carry their own included allowance before they meter again. Three published tiers here, carrier and Meta fees at cost, and nothing else to forecast.

4

Every channel on one brain

The same agent answers on SMS, WhatsApp, Instagram DM, Facebook Messenger, web chat and email with shared memory, so a customer who asks in a DM and follows up by email is not starting the conversation again.

5

It books and qualifies, not only deflects

Deflection is the easy half. The agent qualifies the lead, offers real calendar slots, books the appointment and writes the result back, which shows up as revenue rather than as cost avoided.

6

Honest about where Intercom wins

Fin is a genuinely strong AI agent and Intercom publishes customer resolution rates around 50 percent. If you want a mature helpdesk with a deep app ecosystem, HIPAA support and SSO on Expert, multibrand, and a 93 percent startup discount, Intercom earns its price. The billing model is what to model carefully, not the software.

Common questions

Intercom pricing questions

How much does Intercom cost?

Intercom charges per Full seat plus usage. Billed annually a seat is $29 a month on Essential, $85 on Advanced and $132 on Expert. Billed monthly the same seats are $39, $99 and $139. On top of the seat, Fin AI Agent costs $0.99 per outcome on every plan. The minimum to get started is one Full seat.

How does Intercom pricing work?

It has two components. You pay per teammate based on your plan, and you pay for what you use. Usage covers Fin outcomes at $0.99, WhatsApp per conversation, SMS per message, bulk email campaigns per send, and Phone. Inbound support, live chat, banners and tooltips are included free on every plan.

How is Fin AI Agent priced?

Fin costs $0.99 per outcome, identical on all three plans. Intercom counts an outcome when the customer confirms the issue is resolved, when they do not ask for more help after Fin responds, or when Fin completes a workflow. You are charged once per conversation even if Fin answers several questions in it.

Does a handoff to a human count as a billable Fin outcome?

Yes. Intercom lists a completed workflow as an outcome and states explicitly that this includes handoffs. So a conversation Fin passes to a person can still cost $0.99. This is a real difference from Zendesk, which defines an automated resolution as one closed without any escalation to a human agent and does not bill when its bot escalates.

Does Intercom have a free plan?

No. Intercom does not publish a free tier. It runs a 14-day free trial that includes all features, Fin and the add-ons, and does not ask for a credit card to start. You only pay once you pick a plan and add payment details. Early-stage startups can apply for up to 93 percent off plus a year of Fin.

What is the Intercom Accelerate plan?

Accelerate is a legacy plan name that Intercom no longer publishes. The current published plans are Essential, Advanced and Expert. If you are on an older plan such as Accelerate your contract terms still stand, but any Accelerate pricing you find quoted online does not match what Intercom sells today, so compare against the current three tiers instead.

What is Intercom Engage pricing?

Intercom no longer sells a product called Engage, so there is no current Engage price to quote. The outbound features that Engage used to cover now sit in the Proactive Support Plus add-on at $99 a month, which includes 500 messages along with product tours, surveys, in-app messages, mobile push and carousels.

What is the difference between a Full seat and a Lite seat?

A Full seat is paid and required for anyone who talks to customers or uses core features. A Lite seat is free on Advanced and Expert and gives limited access for internal collaboration. Only Full seats can send messages or use outbound content. Advanced includes 20 free Lite seats and Expert includes 50.

How much is Intercom Copilot?

Copilot is an optional add-on at $29 per agent per month billed annually, or $35 per agent per month billed monthly, for unlimited use. Before you buy it every agent already gets 10 Copilot conversations and 10 AI auto-translation conversations free each month, which is enough to judge whether the paid version pays for itself.

What does the Intercom Pro add-on include?

Pro is $99 a month and adds Operator plus a set of AI features for analyzing performance, monitoring quality and improving Fin. It includes analysis of 1,000 conversations a month and 2,000 credits. Extra credits cost $0.01 each, so the included credits are worth about $20 of the $99.

Can I use Fin with my existing helpdesk?

Yes. Fin runs on helpdesks you already own, Salesforce included, at the same $0.99 per outcome with no seat cost, no setup fee and no platform fee. The catch is a minimum monthly commitment that Intercom gives as 50 outcomes, so the floor is $49.50 a month, roughly 1.7 times the $29 cost of a single Essential seat.

Do I need a contract with Intercom?

Not on the self-serve tiers. Essential and Advanced are available monthly or annually without a contract, and you can change plans, seats and add-ons yourself in the workspace. Contracts are required only for enterprise needs, Premier Support or onboarding, and custom terms. Downgrades normally take effect at renewal.

Is Intercom cheaper than Zendesk or Gorgias?

It depends on volume and how much your AI actually resolves. Intercom undercuts Zendesk per resolution at $0.99 against $1.50 committed or $2.00 pay as you go, but Intercom bills handoffs and Zendesk does not, so the gap narrows as your escalation rate rises. Gorgias starts far cheaper because it charges per ticket rather than per seat, but it counts each AI interaction as a ticket too.

What is the cheapest way to run Intercom?

Pay annually, keep Full seats to the people who genuinely talk to customers, and push everyone else onto free Lite seats on Advanced or Expert. Annual saves the most on Essential at 25.6 percent and the least on Expert at 5.0 percent, so the case for committing a year is strongest at the bottom of the range. Then model Fin outcomes honestly, including handoffs, because at real volume the meter outgrows the seats.
