AI AGENT PRICING
AI customer service agent pricing: AI customer service cost, AI agent pricing models, and what each vendor really charges per resolution

Handed to a human teammate
They pick up with the full conversation and context carried over. No dead ends, no repeating.
Sample conversation, not customer data.
Every AI customer service vendor advertises a single number. Not one of them bills you on a single number. That gap is the whole story of AI agent pricing in 2026, and it is why two products whose stickers differ by 20x can cost within pennies of each other once a real month of conversations runs through them.
Start with the clearest example. Front advertises Autopilot at "Starting at $0.05 /conversation". Read the rate card behind that headline and it is three prices, not one: $0.05 when the AI triages a conversation, $0.39 when it gathers context and hands off to a person, and $0.89 when it "fully resolves the conversation without any replies from your team". Front is transparent about it and the model is fair, since a conversation is charged once at the highest outcome it reaches. But the number a buyer remembers is $0.05, and the number that lands on the invoice for a solved question is $0.89. Run a realistic mix of 67 percent resolved, 23 percent handed off and 10 percent triaged, and the true cost per problem actually solved is about $1.03. The headline understates it by roughly twenty times.
That is not a criticism of Front specifically. It is the shape of the category. Freshdesk leads with $19 per agent per month, then charges $49 per 100 Freddy AI Agent sessions on top, and a session is explicitly not a resolution (on email it is a 72-hour window). Gorgias leads with $0.90 per AI interaction, then states on the same page that each automated interaction also counts as one helpdesk ticket, so the real number on a Pro plan is $1.26 or $1.86. Tidio leads with a plan tile, then meters billable conversations, Lyro AI conversations and Flows visitors reached as three independent sliders. Salesforce sells Agentforce five different ways at once.
So the useful question is not "how much does an AI customer service agent cost". It is "how many meters am I signing up for, and what is the unit on each one". Of the nine vendors below, the median is four separate meters. Fin, Front, Freshdesk and Agentforce each run five. Counting them before you sign is the single highest-leverage thing you can do, because a quote that names one meter is not a quote, it is a starting point.
The second question is the one almost nobody asks: what is the rate divided by the resolution rate. If a vendor charges per conversation the AI engages rather than per problem it solves, you are also paying for every miss, and the true cost per solved question is the published rate divided by the fraction it closes. At Tidio's own advertised 67 percent, an entry rung of roughly 0.65 per conversation is about 0.97 per solved question, which is within two cents of Fin's $0.99 flat per resolution despite a sticker that looks a third cheaper. Vendors publish rates. They do not publish their performance on your content, and that unknown is exactly what per-conversation billing transfers onto you.
There is a third pattern worth naming, because it survives every model above. Under any metered plan, your bill rises as the AI gets better at its job. A team that lifts deflection from 30 to 60 percent has just doubled its AI line item under per-resolution pricing. That is a strange incentive to accept, and it is the reason MessageAgent is priced the other way: $79, $199 or $499 flat per month, with carrier and Meta message fees passed through at cost, one meter and no per-resolution charge, so improving deflection lowers your cost per contact instead of raising your invoice.

AI customer service agent pricing: advertised rate against true cost per resolution
Every figure below was read first-hand from the vendor's own US pricing page. Fin, Front, Freshdesk and Help Scout were re-verified on 22 August 2026; Gorgias, Tidio, Salesforce, Zendesk, Richpanel and Re:amaze on the dates noted in the rows. Vendors change pricing without notice, so confirm on your order form.
| Vendor | Advertised headline rate | What you actually pay for a solved question | Separate meters on the bill |
|---|---|---|---|
| Front (Autopilot) | Starting at $0.05 per conversation | $0.89 for a full resolution. About $1.03 per solved question across a 67/23/10 outcome mix, because triage and handoff are billed too | 5: seats $25 to $105, Autopilot outcomes, Copilot $20 per seat, add-ons $10 to $20 per seat, API $200 per 100 requests/min |
| Intercom (Fin) | $0.99 per outcome | $0.99. Fin does not bill a conversation simply passed to your team, so the rate is the true cost | 5: outcomes $0.99, Qualifications $9.99, helpdesk seats from $29, Copilot $35 per user, Operator credits $0.01 each |
| Gorgias (AI Agent) | $0.90 per interaction on annual plans | $1.26 on Pro, or $1.86 at the overage rate, because each AI interaction also counts as one billable ticket | 4: plan tickets, ticket overage $0.36 to $0.40, AI interactions $0.90 to $1.50, SMS and Voice as separate ticket types |
| Help Scout (AI Answers) | $0.75 per resolution | $0.75. Billed on resolution, so the published rate is the real one | 4: seats $25 to $75, AI Answers $0.75, extra inboxes $10 each, extra sites $20 each |
| Freshdesk (Freddy AI Agent) | From $19 per agent per month | $0.49 per session after the first 500, and a session is not a resolution. Nearer $0.73 per solved question at 67% | 5: agent seats $19 to $89, AI sessions $49 per 100, Copilot $29 per agent, day passes $2 to $12, connector tasks $80 per 5,000 |
| Tidio (Lyro) | From 32.50 a month for 50 AI conversations | About 0.97 per solved question at Lyro's advertised 67% resolution rate, or 1.30 at 50%. Billed per conversation attempted below Premium | 3: billable conversations, Lyro AI conversations, Flows visitors reached |
| Salesforce (Agentforce) | $2 per conversation, or 20 Flex Credits per action | $2 per conversation, or $0.10 per action. Break-even between the two models is exactly 20 actions | 5 simultaneous buying models: Flex Credits, conversations, user licenses $5, flat add-ons $125 to $150, Agentforce 1 editions from $550 |
| Zendesk | $19 to $115 per agent per month annual, Enterprise quote only | $1.50 per committed automated resolution or $2.00 pay as you go, identical on every published plan. Only 5 resolutions per agent per month are included, 10 on Suite Professional | 5: seats, automated resolutions, action credits $200 per 100,000 actions, Sunshine MAUs $50 per 2,500, Sunshine notifications $50 per 25,000. Plus add-ons at $50 to $83 per agent |
| Richpanel / Re:amaze | Richpanel $99 per seat, Re:amaze from $29 per user | Richpanel $0.20 per AI-handled conversation. Re:amaze $0.85 per additional resolution | 2 each: seats plus an AI meter |
| MessageAgent | $79, $199 or $499 flat per month | Nothing per resolution. The subscription is the cost, whatever your deflection rate does | 1: the subscription. Carrier and Meta message fees are passed through at cost with no markup |
The "true cost" column normalizes per-attempt rates to cost per solved question by dividing the published rate by the resolution rate. Vendors billing on outcomes (Fin, Help Scout) need no adjustment. Vendors billing on attempts (Tidio below Premium, Freshdesk sessions) do, and the size of that adjustment is exactly the fraction of conversations the AI cannot close.
What you get
Everything one AI agent handles
One meter, not four
The median vendor here bills on four independent meters and four of the nine run five. Forecasting a budget means forecasting every one of them. We publish three flat tiers, so the number you forecast is the number printed on the plan.
Getting better at deflection makes you money
Under every metered model your invoice grows as the AI improves. Lift deflection from 30 to 60 percent on a per-resolution contract and you have doubled that line item. With no resolution meter, the same improvement simply lowers your cost per contact.
The advertised rate is the rate
Front advertises $0.05 and charges $0.89 for a resolution. Freshdesk advertises $19 a seat and adds $0.49 a session. Gorgias advertises $0.90 and bills $1.26. There is no second rate card here and no allowance to blow through.
Your busiest month is not your most expensive
Usage-based AI billing raises your software cost at precisely the moment volume spikes and margins tighten. A flat tier means a product launch, a shipping delay or a seasonal rush changes your revenue and not your support line.
Every channel, one brain, one price
The same agent answers on SMS, WhatsApp, Instagram DM, Facebook Messenger, web chat and email with shared memory, so a customer who asks about sizing in a DM and then emails about delivery is not starting over with a stranger.
Honest about when metered billing wins
If your volume is genuinely low and unpredictable, a per-resolution vendor like Help Scout at $0.75 can cost less than any subscription, and Fin's refusal to bill unresolved conversations is a genuinely buyer-friendly design. Metered pricing is not a trick. It is just a different bet on your own volume.

Common questions
AI customer service agent pricing questions
How much does an AI customer service agent cost?
Per solved question, roughly $0.75 to $1.86 across the vendors that publish a rate, as verified in August 2026. Help Scout is cheapest at $0.75 per resolution, Fin charges $0.99, Front works out near $1.03 in a realistic outcome mix, and Gorgias reaches $1.26 to $1.86 because an AI interaction also consumes a ticket.
What are the main AI agent pricing models?
Four are in common use. Per resolution or outcome, where you pay only when the AI solves the problem. Per conversation or session, where you pay whenever the AI engages. Per seat, where the AI is bundled into an agent license. And flat subscription, where nothing about the AI is metered at all.
What is the difference between a resolution, a conversation and a session?
A resolution means the customer needed no further help. A conversation means the AI engaged, solved or not. A session is Freshdesk's unit, defined as a unique interaction with an AI agent, and on email it spans a 72-hour window. Rates on these three units are not comparable without adjusting for your resolution rate.
How do I compare a per-conversation rate to a per-resolution rate?
Divide the per-conversation rate by your expected resolution rate. A vendor charging $0.20 per conversation that resolves half of them costs $0.40 per solved question, because you paid for the miss too. Per-resolution rates need no adjustment, since the published rate already is the cost per solved question.
Which AI customer service agent is cheapest?
On the published unit rate, Front at $0.05 looks cheapest and Help Scout at $0.75 is the cheapest true per-resolution rate. On the actual cost of a solved question, Help Scout wins among metered vendors. At volume, a flat subscription beats all of them, because the metered models charge more precisely as the AI works better.
Why is the advertised AI price so different from the invoice?
Because vendors advertise the cheapest meter and bill on all of them. Front advertises its $0.05 triage rate rather than its $0.89 resolution rate. Freshdesk advertises a seat price and meters AI sessions separately. Gorgias advertises $0.90 without highlighting that the same interaction also consumes a billable ticket.
How many meters does a typical AI support vendor bill on?
Four is the median across the nine vendors compared here, and Fin, Front, Freshdesk and Salesforce Agentforce each run five. Meters commonly include agent seats, an AI usage unit, a copilot seat licence, an allowance overage, and extras such as extra inboxes, day passes, connector tasks or API rate limits.
Does Gorgias really charge twice for one AI resolution?
Effectively yes, and its own pricing page says so: each automated interaction also counts as one helpdesk ticket. Past both allowances on a Pro plan that is $0.36 for the ticket plus $0.90 to $1.50 for the interaction, so $1.26 to $1.86 for a single question the AI answered without a person.
What does Fin cost beyond the $0.99 per outcome?
Fin runs five meters. Outcomes at $0.99, Qualifications at $9.99, a $29 per seat monthly minimum for the help desk, Copilot at $35 per user per month, and Operator credits at $0.01 each above what the Pro add-on includes. There is a 50-outcome monthly minimum for non-Intercom help desks.
Is per-resolution AI pricing better than a flat subscription?
It depends on volume and confidence. Per-resolution pricing is safer when the AI is unproven on your content, because you pay nothing for failures. Flat subscription is cheaper at volume and has the better incentive, since it is the only model where a higher deflection rate lowers rather than raises your bill.
What should I ask a vendor before signing an AI support contract?
Ask for the unit in writing, what happens on a handoff, whether there is a monthly minimum, which rate appears on the order form when the page publishes more than one, whether the AI unit also consumes a ticket, and what the trial is genuinely long enough to prove on your real historical tickets.
Do any vendors hide their AI pricing entirely?
Zendesk publishes seat prices of $55 to $115 per agent per month but no dollar rate for an automated resolution anywhere on its pricing page. Several vertical AI vendors publish nothing at all. Treat an unpublished AI rate as a negotiation, not as evidence it is expensive, and get it quoted per unit.
