A Salesforce chatbot is any AI agent that talks to your customers and keeps the CRM record straight afterwards. There are two honest ways to get one. You can buy Salesforce's own agent, Agentforce, and run it inside the platform. Or you can run a messaging-native agent on the channels your customers actually use and sync the contact, the qualification and the booking back into Salesforce.

The reason buyers land on this page is almost always the second question: what does it cost. We pulled Salesforce's US pricing page first-hand on 18 August 2026, and the answer is that there are five published ways to pay for the same agent. Flex Credits at $500 per 100,000 credits, where a standard action burns 20 credits ($0.10) and a voice action burns 30 ($0.15). Conversations at $2 each. An Agentforce User License at $5 per user per month, which still requires Flex Credits on top. A flat add-on at $125 per user per month ($150 for Industries) that makes employee usage unmetered. And Agentforce 1 Editions from $550 per user per month with 2.5M Flex Credits per org per year included. Salesforce Foundations lets you start at $0.

Five buying models for one product is not an accident, and it is not a scandal either. It is what happens when a vendor cannot decide whether AI should be billed like software, like labor or like electricity. The practical effect for a US buyer is that you cannot forecast the bill until you know how many actions a typical conversation triggers, and you usually learn that after you have signed.

MessageAgent takes the opposite side of that bet. One AI agent across SMS, web chat, email, Instagram DM, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, on flat tiers of $79, $199 and $499 a month, with carrier and Meta fees passed through at cost. It connects to Salesforce, Shopify, Google Calendar and anything reachable through Zapier. We are direct about the trade: we are a conversation layer, not a Salesforce-native application. We do not run inside Service Cloud, we are not a replacement for Sales Cloud, and if your requirement is an agent that executes flows and updates records deep inside Salesforce objects, Agentforce is the product built for that job and this page will tell you so.

Side by side

Salesforce chatbot pricing: every published way to pay, side by side

Taken from the Salesforce Agentforce pricing page with the currency selector set to US Dollar, read first-hand on 18 August 2026, plus the published rates of the AI agents Salesforce buyers most often shortlist against it. Where a vendor publishes no rate, the table says so rather than estimating one.

Product or model Billing unit Published US price What triggers a charge Best for
MessageAgent Flat monthly subscription Yes. $79, $199 and $499 per month Nothing per conversation. Carrier and Meta fees pass through at cost Teams whose customers message on text, chat and DMs and who want the CRM updated, not replaced
Agentforce Flex Credits Per action Yes. $500 per 100,000 Flex Credits Every action an agent executes. 20 credits ($0.10) standard, 30 credits ($0.15) voice Orgs that can model action volume and want cost tied to work done
Agentforce Conversations Per conversation Yes. $2 per conversation Each conversation, however many actions it contains Buyers whose conversations run long, since 20 actions equals $2 in credits
Agentforce User License Per user, plus credits Yes. $5 per user per month The seat, and then Flex Credits on top. Salesforce states it requires Flex Credits Rolling agent access out to every employee cheaply
Agentforce add-on (flat fee) Per user, unmetered Yes. $125 per user per month, $150 for Industries Nothing extra. Employee usage is unmetered on this model Employee-facing use where usage is impossible to forecast
Agentforce 1 Editions Per user, bundled Yes. From $550 per user per month Includes the add-on and 2.5M Flex Credits per org per year Large orgs standardizing on Salesforce for sales, service and field service
Salesforce Foundations Free tier Yes. $0 Nothing, until you move to a paid model Building and testing an agent before committing to a buying model
Fin, formerly Intercom Per resolution Yes. $0.99 per resolution, $9.99 per qualification When no further help is requested after Fin's last answer. Not charged on a plain handover Support teams already on Intercom, now being acquired by Salesforce
Help Scout AI Answers Per resolution Yes. $0.75 per resolution Each AI resolution, on top of the per-user plan Small support teams wanting the cheapest published resolution rate
Zendesk AI agents Per outcome No dollar rate published Salesforce-style outcome billing, but the rate is not on the pricing page Enterprises with a negotiated Zendesk contract

Salesforce figures read from the Agentforce pricing page with the currency selector set to US Dollar on 18 August 2026; the page itself states it is provided for information purposes only and is subject to change. What you get

Everything one AI agent handles

1

A number you can put in a budget

Salesforce publishes five ways to buy the same agent and a footnote saying the page is subject to change. Ours is one number: $79, $199 or $499 a month. A director can approve that line without first modelling how many actions an average conversation triggers, which is the part nobody can answer honestly before go-live.

2

It meets customers where they message

Agentforce is strongest inside Salesforce surfaces and the channels you wire into it. Our agent starts from the other end: SMS, web chat, email, Instagram DM, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, one persona, one memory, one inbox. If most of your inbound arrives as a text or a DM, that is the gap this closes.

3

The CRM stays the record, not the bottleneck

The agent captures the contact, the qualification answers and the booked appointment, then syncs them to Salesforce through our integration or through Zapier. Your reps keep working in the CRM they know. Nobody has to check a second inbox to find out what a customer already told the bot at 9pm.

4

Qualification that does not carry a $9.99 tag

Fin bills a qualification outcome at $9.99 and a resolution at $0.99. Agentforce bills the actions underneath. On a flat tier, qualifying a lead costs the same whether you qualify ten this month or ten thousand, so a good month for marketing does not turn into a bad month for finance.

5

Live in days, not a platform project

Connect the channels, point the agent at your FAQs, products and booking rules, set the handoff rules, and test it against your real questions. Agentforce deployments that touch flows, records and permissions are genuine implementation projects, often with a partner attached. Both are valid. They are not the same amount of work.

6

Honest about what we are not

We are not a Salesforce-native app, we do not run inside Service Cloud, and we do not execute Apex or update arbitrary Salesforce objects. If you need an agent operating deep inside the platform on records and flows, Agentforce is the right tool and no comparison table should talk you out of it.

Common questions

Salesforce chatbot questions

Is there a Salesforce texting chatbot?

Salesforce itself sells texting through Marketing Cloud and Digital Engagement rather than as a standalone chatbot, so most teams looking for a Salesforce texting chatbot end up connecting a messaging-native agent to the CRM. MessageAgent answers and qualifies over SMS, writes the contact and the outcome back to Salesforce, and does not charge per message beyond the carrier fee.

Can a chatbot send and reply to SMS from Salesforce records?

Yes, provided the messaging platform syncs both directions. MessageAgent holds the SMS conversation, then updates the Salesforce contact, lead status and booked appointment so the record reflects what was said. Outbound texting to US numbers still requires 10DLC registration regardless of which platform sends it.

Does Salesforce have a chatbot?

Yes. Salesforce sells Agentforce, its AI agent platform, which replaced the older Einstein Bots as the way to build conversational agents. It runs on Salesforce data and can execute actions inside the platform, such as updating a record or summarizing a case. You buy it either by usage, through Flex Credits or per conversation, or by seat, through the add-on and Agentforce 1 Editions.

How much does a Salesforce chatbot cost?

On the US pricing page as of 18 August 2026, five published models exist. Flex Credits cost $500 per 100,000, with a standard action at 20 credits ($0.10) and a voice action at 30 ($0.15). Conversations are $2 each. An Agentforce User License is $5 per user per month plus credits. The flat add-on is $125 per user per month, $150 for Industries. Agentforce 1 Editions start at $550 per user per month.

What are Flex Credits in Agentforce?

Flex Credits are Salesforce's consumption unit for Agentforce. In Salesforce's words, each action is "a specific function that an AI agent executes on the platform, such as updating a record, summarizing a complex case, answering a product inquiry, or executing a custom prompt or flow" and it draws from a shared credit pool. Standard actions cost 20 credits, voice actions 30, and credits are shared across teams and use cases.

Is Agentforce cheaper per conversation or per action?

It depends entirely on how many actions your conversations trigger. At 20 credits per action, twenty actions cost $2.00 in Flex Credits, which is exactly the per-conversation price. So conversations that average fewer than twenty actions are cheaper on Flex Credits, and long, multi-step conversations are cheaper at the $2 flat conversation rate. Model your real transcripts before you pick.

What happens if I go over my Agentforce credit entitlement?

Salesforce states there is no overage penalty. In its own words, "If you exceed your entitlement, your rate is your contracted rate billed monthly in arrears," and it points customers at Digital Wallet alerts to prevent surprises. That is genuinely more buyer-friendly than the punitive overage rates some AI vendors publish, though it still means the invoice moves with usage.

Salesforce chatbot vs Agentforce: what is the difference?

They are not competing things. Agentforce is the current Salesforce chatbot product; "Salesforce chatbot" is the category term people search. The older Einstein Bots builder is the previous generation. If a vendor page or a consultant quotes you for a "Salesforce chatbot" in 2026, ask which product and which of the five buying models the quote assumes, because the answer changes the number substantially.

Can a chatbot integrate with Salesforce without being built on Salesforce?

Yes, and for messaging-led teams it is often the better fit. An external agent handles the conversation on text, chat, email and DMs, then writes the contact, the qualification answers and the booked appointment back into Salesforce. MessageAgent connects to Salesforce, Shopify, Google Calendar and anything reachable through Zapier. What it will not do is execute Apex or manipulate arbitrary Salesforce objects the way a native agent can.

Do I still need Service Cloud if I use an external chatbot?

If your team already works cases in Service Cloud, keep it. An external messaging agent is not a help desk replacement; it handles the front of the conversation and escalates with full context. The teams that drop the help desk entirely are usually smaller businesses whose volume never justified one, not established support organizations with queues, SLAs and reporting built on it.

Does Salesforce acquiring Intercom change what I should buy?

Salesforce signed a definitive agreement on 15 June 2026 to acquire Intercom, which renamed itself Fin, for roughly $3.6 billion, with closing expected in the fourth quarter of Salesforce fiscal 2027. Nothing about your current Fin contract changes on signature. What it does mean is that the two most-shortlisted AI support agents will sit under one owner, so if vendor concentration is a procurement concern for you, raise it now rather than at renewal.

How long does a Salesforce chatbot implementation take?

A messaging-layer agent is usually days: connect channels, load your knowledge, write the qualifying questions, set handoff rules, test against real transcripts. An Agentforce build that executes flows and touches records is an implementation project, frequently weeks and frequently with a partner, because the actions have to be defined, permissioned and tested against your org's configuration. Budget for the second if that is what you are buying.
