Handed to a human teammate
They pick up with the full conversation and context carried over. No dead ends, no repeating.
Sample conversation, not customer data.
Kustomer is a serious enterprise CX platform. It was built around a customer timeline rather than a ticket queue, it handles high conversation volume well, and large retail and DTC support organizations run their whole operation on it. If you need a CRM-shaped help desk with deep custom objects, Kustomer earns its reputation and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
What is genuinely hard is finding out what it costs. We opened kustomer.com/pricing on 31 August 2026 and read the whole page: 41,425 characters of feature descriptions and not one dollar figure anywhere on it. The page says, in Kustomer's own words, "Every CX team's setup is different, so we don't post one-size-fits-all pricing," and then offers a two-minute assessment that ends with a sales conversation. If you search for Kustomer pricing you will find at least eight third-party articles quoting $89 per seat for Enterprise and $139 for Ultimate as though those were published rates. They are not on Kustomer's website. The only seat-based plans Kustomer does list, the legacy Professional and Business tiers, both show the price as "Talk to Sales."
There is a second page, though, and it is the one worth reading. A small "click here" link at the bottom of the pricing page leads to Kustomer's Comprehensive Pricing Details, last updated 19 December 2025, and that page publishes real per-unit rates. Nine separate billable lines, in fact, which is the most we have counted on any vendor in this category, ahead of Podium's eight. The AI that talks to your customers is $0.60 per engaged conversation. The AI that helps your reps is $40 per user per month. HIPAA compliance is a further $25 per user per month. Voice starts at $0.02 a minute, outbound chat is $0.001 a conversation, outbound messages on the conversation pricing program are $0.025 each, data storage is $50 per GB per month, and on WhatsApp Kustomer adds its own fee equal to 20 percent of Meta's per-template message fee on top of what Meta charges. Implementation, Kinesis, extra sandboxes, voice transcriptions and SAML single sign-on on the Enterprise tier are all marked with a dollar sign meaning available at additional charge, with no number attached.
The unit Kustomer meters is worth pausing on, because it is a third distinct definition in a category that already had two. Zendesk bills $1.50 for an automated resolution and defines that as a request the AI closed without escalating to a human, so you pay when the AI wins. Freshdesk bills $0.49 for a session, which is any interaction at all, so you pay whether or not it worked. Kustomer bills $0.60 for an engaged conversation, which is neither an attempt nor an outcome but an engagement. Three vendors, three incompatible units, and no way to put the headline rates side by side without deciding what your own deflection rate is first.
MessageAgent is built the other way round. One flat subscription at $79, $199 or $499 a month, published in dollars, not per seat. The AI agent is the product rather than an add-on, so there is no per-conversation meter, no per-rep AI seat, and no compliance surcharge. One AI brain works across SMS, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook DM, web chat and email, and it qualifies, books and upsells rather than only closing tickets. Carrier and Meta message fees are passed through at cost with no percentage on top. We should be equally clear about where Kustomer wins: it has custom objects measured in the millions, 2,000 requests per minute of API headroom on Ultimate, 300 brands, and an enterprise security and audit story we do not match. If you are a 200-seat retail support organization with a custom data model, Kustomer is a better fit than we are, and this page is not going to argue otherwise.
Side by side
MessageAgent vs Kustomer

Kustomer is a trademark of its owner, referenced nominatively. Comparison reflects publicly described capabilities.
Published figures
Every Kustomer price we could find published, next to MessageAgent
Kustomer figures read first-hand on 31 August 2026 from kustomer.com/pricing and from the Comprehensive Pricing Details page linked at the bottom of it, which carries the date 19 December 2025. All in US Dollars. Where Kustomer marks a line with a dollar sign meaning available at additional charge but prints no number, the table says so rather than guessing. MessageAgent pricing is planned and not yet on sale, so treat our column as the intended price rather than something you can buy today.
| Line item | Kustomer | MessageAgent |
|---|---|---|
| Seat price, current plans | Enterprise and Ultimate. Not published anywhere on the site. The assessment form ends in a sales call | $79, $199 or $499 a month flat, published, not per seat |

| Customer-facing AI | AI Agents for Customers $0.60 per engaged conversation, identical on Enterprise and Ultimate | No per-conversation charge |
| What the AI meter counts | An engaged conversation. Not an attempt as Freshdesk counts it, and not a resolution as Zendesk counts it | Nothing is counted. The AI is the product |
| Agent-side AI assistant | AI Agents for Reps $40 per user per month, identical on both plans | Included |
| HIPAA compliance | $25 per user per month on both plans | Included, no surcharge |
| Voice | Starting at $0.02 a minute. No upfront cost or long-term commitment. Numbers in 8 countries | Not offered. We are messaging only and say so |
| Outbound chat | $0.001 per conversation | Included |
| Outbound messages | $0.025 per message on the conversation pricing program | Carrier cost passed through, no markup |
| Meta's per-template fee plus a Kustomer fee equal to 20 percent of it | Meta's fee passed through at cost. We add nothing | |
| Data storage | $50 per GB per month beyond the plan allowance | Included |
| Priced but not numbered | Implementation, Kinesis, extra sandboxes, voice transcriptions, and SAML single sign-on on Enterprise | None |
| Free trial | None advertised. The route in is the assessment and a demo | Waitlist. The product is pre-launch and not yet purchasable |
| Number of separate meters on the invoice | Nine published: seats, AI conversations, AI rep seats, HIPAA, voice minutes, outbound chat, outbound messages, data storage, and the WhatsApp percentage | One: the subscription. Carrier and Meta fees passed through at cost |
Two things are worth taking away from this table. The first is that the number everyone quotes for Kustomer, $89 a seat for Enterprise and $139 for Ultimate, appears nowhere on Kustomer's own site as of 31 August 2026, so treat it as secondhand until a quote lands in your inbox. The second is the pattern in the AI rate: $0.60 per engaged conversation is exactly the same on Enterprise as on Ultimate. Zendesk holds $1.50 and $2.00 flat across all three of its published plans, and Freshdesk holds $0.49 across all three of its. Three vendors in a row where moving up a tier buys you quota and security features but never a better AI rate. If you were planning to upgrade in order to bring the AI meter down, none of the three will do it.
Common questions
Switching from Kustomer
How much does Kustomer cost?
Kustomer does not publish a seat price. As of 31 August 2026 its pricing page contains no dollar figures and states that it does not post one-size-fits-all pricing. It does publish per-unit rates on a separate details page: $0.60 per engaged conversation for customer-facing AI, $40 per user per month for the rep assistant, $25 per user per month for HIPAA, and $0.02 a minute for voice.
Is Kustomer pricing $89 per user?
That figure is widely repeated online but it is not on Kustomer's website. The two current plans, Enterprise and Ultimate, show no price at all, and the two legacy seat-based plans, Professional and Business, both list the price as Talk to Sales. Treat $89 and $139 as secondhand estimates rather than published rates until you have a written quote.
What is an engaged conversation in Kustomer?
It is the unit Kustomer bills for its customer-facing AI, at $0.60 each. It sits between the two other definitions in this category. Freshdesk bills a session, which is any interaction whether or not the AI succeeded. Zendesk bills an automated resolution, which requires the AI to close the request without escalating. Kustomer bills engagement, so the three rates are not directly comparable.
Does Kustomer charge extra for AI?
Yes, on both sides. The customer-facing AI Agents for Customers add-on is $0.60 per engaged conversation, and AI Agents for Reps is $40 per user per month. Both rates are identical on the Enterprise and Ultimate plans, so upgrading your plan does not reduce what the AI costs you per conversation.
Does Kustomer charge for HIPAA compliance?
Yes. HIPAA compliance is listed as an add-on at $25 per user per month on both the Enterprise and Ultimate plans. For a 20-seat team that is $500 a month, or $6,000 a year, purely for the compliance posture before any AI usage is counted.
How does Kustomer bill WhatsApp?
Kustomer passes through Meta's per-template message fee and adds its own fee equal to 20 percent of that Meta fee. Kustomer states that where Meta charges nothing, for example additional messages sent inside the customer service window, Kustomer adds nothing either. MessageAgent passes Meta's fee through at cost and adds no percentage.
Is MessageAgent a good Kustomer alternative?
It is a good fit if you want a published flat price with the AI included and you do not need an enterprise custom data model. MessageAgent runs one AI brain across SMS, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook DM, web chat and email on a flat subscription. If you need millions of custom objects, 300 brands or heavy API throughput, Kustomer is the stronger platform and we would tell you so.
