Front vs Zendesk pricing splits on seats and AI. On seats, Zendesk is cheaper at the entry and omnichannel tiers ($19 and $55 per agent a month billed yearly, against Front's $25 and $65), and Front is cheaper at the top, where Enterprise at $105 includes Copilot while Zendesk Suite Professional is $115 before a $50 Copilot. On AI, Front Autopilot charges $0.89 per resolution against Zendesk's $1.50 committed or $2.00 pay as you go, but Front also bills $0.05 to triage and $0.39 to hand off, which Zendesk does not. For a 10-agent omnichannel team, Front usually costs less once the AI is busy.

Is Front cheaper than Zendesk?
On seats alone, Zendesk is cheaper at the bottom and in the middle, and Front is cheaper at the top. Zendesk Support Team at $19 undercuts Front Starter at $25, and Suite Team at $55 undercuts Front Professional at $65 when both are billed yearly. Month to month the middle gap widens to $16 a seat ($69 against $85).
The order flips on the upper plans, because Front bundles its agent assistant into Enterprise and Zendesk sells it separately. Front Enterprise is $105 with Copilot, Smart QA and Smart CSAT included. Zendesk Suite Professional is $115, and Copilot adds $50, so the like-for-like number is $165, or $60 more per agent a month.
| Team, billed yearly | Front Starter | Front Professional | Front Enterprise | Zendesk Support Team | Zendesk Suite Team | Zendesk Suite Professional |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 agents | $125 | $325 | $525 | $95 | $275 | $575 |
| 10 agents | $250 | $650 | $1,050 | $190 | $550 | $1,150 |
| 25 agents | Not allowed (cap 10) | $1,625 | $2,625 | $475 | $1,375 | $2,875 |
| 50 agents | Not allowed | $3,250 | $5,250 | $950 | $2,750 | $5,750 |
Watch the caps under that table. Front Starter stops at 10 seats and Professional at 50, and Front applies one plan to the whole organization. The 11th agent on Starter moves you from $250 to $715 a month, and the 51st on Professional moves you from $3,250 to $5,355. Zendesk prints no seat cap, so its bill grows one agent at a time. Our Front pricing breakdown lists every cap, add-on and threshold on Front's page.
How much does Front Autopilot cost compared with Zendesk AI agents?
Per resolution, Front is cheaper: $0.89 against Zendesk's $1.50 committed or $2.00 pay as you go. But Front also bills the conversations the AI does not finish. Autopilot charges $0.05 when it only tags, routes or summarizes, and $0.39 when it drafts a reply or takes an action and then hands the conversation to a person. Zendesk bills only automated resolutions, meaning requests closed without any escalation to a human, and includes 5 per agent a month on Team plans and 10 on Suite Professional.
That gives a clean rule from the two rate cards. Ignoring triage and the Zendesk allowance, Front Autopilot costs less than Zendesk's committed rate unless your handoffs outnumber your resolutions by more than about 1.56 to 1 (because $0.39 times 1.56 covers the $0.61 Front saves on each resolution). Against Zendesk's $2.00 pay-as-you-go rate, the line moves to about 2.85 handoffs per resolution. Most teams that are happy with their AI sit well under either line.
The resolution test also differs, and it matters for your invoice. Front counts a conversation as resolved when no teammate follows up within 24 hours on chat, SMS and WhatsApp, or 72 hours on email and the portal. A customer who gives up and goes quiet is billed as a resolution. Zendesk's test is that the AI resolved the request without escalation to a human agent.
What 10 agents and 3,000 conversations a month cost on each
Take a 10-agent US team on the omnichannel tier with an agent assistant, handling 3,000 AI-touched conversations a month: 1,200 resolved by the AI, 900 handed off after a draft, and 900 only triaged.
| Monthly line, billed yearly | Front Professional | Zendesk Suite Team |
|---|---|---|
| 10 seats | $650 | $550 |
| Agent assistant | Copilot $200 | Copilot $500 |
| AI resolutions | 1,200 at $0.89 = $1,068 | 1,200 minus 50 included = 1,150 at $1.50 = $1,725 |
| AI handoffs | 900 at $0.39 = $351 | Not billed |
| AI triage | 900 at $0.05 = $45 | Not billed |
| Total | $2,314 | $2,775 ($3,350 pay as you go) |
Drop the agent assistant and the gap narrows to $2,114 against $2,275. Cut the AI's success rate so it resolves 300, hands off 2,000 and triages 700, and Zendesk wins on the AI half: Front's AI lines come to $1,082 against Zendesk's $375. So the AI half of the decision depends on one number you can measure in a trial, your real resolution rate.
Which is better for a US support team, Front or Zendesk?
Front fits a B2B team that works customer threads together in email, with shared inboxes, internal comments, assignments, guest accounts and Slack. If your agents reply from shared addresses all day, it also pays to keep every outgoing message consistent, and a tool that can set one email signature template for the whole company covers that without asking each person to edit their own.
Zendesk fits a team that needs a classic ticketing system with built-in phone, IVR, skills-based routing and a large app marketplace, or one that will grow past 50 agents and does not want a forced upgrade. It is also the safer pick if your AI will escalate more than it resolves, because Zendesk does not charge for handoffs.
When a flat AI agent beats both
Both tools are help desks first and price the AI on top, per seat and per conversation. If most of your volume is customers and leads messaging by text, WhatsApp, Instagram or web chat, what you are really buying is an AI that answers, qualifies and books without waiting for a person.
That is what MessageAgent is built for. Growth is $199 a month, or $99 billed yearly, with 5,000 AI conversations, 10 handoff seats and SMS, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, web chat and email in one inbox, with no per-resolution or per-handoff meter. At $0.89, 224 Front resolutions already cost more than that, and at $1.50, 133 Zendesk resolutions past the allowance do. It is not a full ticketing help desk with custom reporting, and if your team lives in email tickets, Front or Zendesk is the better buy. Front vs Zendesk pricing questions
Does Front or Zendesk have a free plan?
Neither has a free plan. Front offers a 14-day trial with all Professional features and no credit card, and a separate 30-day Autopilot trial with up to 1,000 resolutions. Zendesk offers a 14-day trial of Suite Professional. Run both trials on the same real traffic so you can compare resolution rates, not just seat prices.
Which is cheaper billed monthly, Front or Zendesk?
Zendesk, on the plans both sell monthly. Month to month, Front Starter is $35 and Professional $85, while Zendesk Support Team is $25 and Suite Team $69. Front Enterprise cannot be bought monthly at all, so a team that wants Copilot included without a yearly contract has no Front option.
Is Front Enterprise cheaper than Zendesk Suite Professional?
Yes. Front Enterprise is $105 per seat a month billed yearly and includes Copilot, Smart QA and Smart CSAT. Zendesk Suite Professional is $115 billed yearly, and its Copilot is a further $50 per agent. For 25 agents with an agent assistant, that is $2,625 a month on Front against $4,125 on Zendesk.
Can I switch from Zendesk to Front?
Yes, and the cheapest moment is your Zendesk renewal date, because yearly plans are paid up front. Start the Front trial a few weeks before renewal and turn on the Autopilot trial at the same time, so its 1,000 free resolutions show you your real resolution and handoff mix before the meter starts.
