Respond.io vs GoHighLevel pricing comes down to how many people you message each month. For one US business that wants an AI answering WhatsApp, Instagram and text, respond.io Growth costs $159 a month billed yearly at 1,000 monthly active contacts and rises to $449 at 10,000. GoHighLevel costs $97 a month for Starter plus $97 for its unlimited AI add-on and $10 for WhatsApp, about $188 a month on annual Starter, at any contact count. Respond.io is cheaper up to about 1,240 contacts a month. Above that, GoHighLevel's flat price wins on subscription alone.

Respond.io prices were read on respond.io/pricing on 6 October 2026 at every contact tier on both billing cycles. GoHighLevel prices were read on gohighlevel.com/pricing the same day, and its AI rates on HighLevel's AI product pricing article, last updated 28 September 2026. All from a United States connection, in US dollars, before taxes, Meta message fees and phone carrier charges.

Respond.io vs GoHighLevel pricing at a glance

The two products get compared because both put WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, SMS and email in one inbox with AI on top. They are built for different buyers. Respond.io is a messaging platform for a team that lives in customer conversations, priced by how many people you talk to. GoHighLevel is an all-in-one marketing system for agencies and small businesses, with a CRM, funnels, websites, calendars and reviews, priced by sub-account with unlimited contacts and unlimited users.

What each one costs a single business with an AI agent

Most comparisons stop at the sticker, $79 against $97. That is the wrong pair. Respond.io Starter has no AI Agents, broadcasts or workflows, and GoHighLevel Starter has no AI that answers customers until you add an AI Employee plan. So we priced the cheapest setup on each side that actually puts an AI on WhatsApp, Instagram and text for one business.

  • Respond.io: the Growth plan, priced by contact tier.
  • GoHighLevel: Starter, one sub-account, plus AI Employee Unlimited at $97 and the WhatsApp integration at $10. On annual Starter ($970 a year, $80.83 a month) that is $187.83 a month. On monthly Starter it is $204.
Monthly active contactsRespond.io Growth, yearlyRespond.io Growth, monthlyGoHighLevel, annual StarterGoHighLevel, monthly Starter
1,000$159$199$187.83$204
1,500$219 (500 on demand)$259 (500 on demand)$187.83$204
2,500$239$299$187.83$204
5,000$319$399$187.83$204
10,000$449$559$187.83$204

Two numbers decide it. On yearly billing, respond.io Growth at $159 plus $12 per 100 extra contacts reaches GoHighLevel's $187.83 at about 240 extra contacts, so respond.io is the cheaper subscription below about 1,240 contacts a month. On month-to-month billing the gap at 1,000 contacts is only $5 ($199 against $204), so GoHighLevel is cheaper almost as soon as you pass the first tier. At 10,000 contacts, respond.io Growth costs 2.4 times GoHighLevel's subscription.

If 1,000 AI replies a month is enough, the AI Employee Growth plan at $50 instead of $97 brings GoHighLevel down to $140.83 on annual Starter, which undercuts respond.io's $159 even at 1,000 contacts. A busy WhatsApp line passes 1,000 replies quickly, since one qualified lead usually takes several.

The fees the subscription does not cover

The subscription is not the whole bill on either side, and the extra charges are different in kind.

GoHighLevel says it plainly in its own FAQ: there are usage-based costs for phone numbers, SMS, emails sent and premium AI usage. On pay-per-use AI, Conversation AI is billed by tokens, from $0.25 per million input tokens on the smaller model, and Voice AI runs from $0.035 to $0.20 a minute depending on the voice engine. The $97 AI Employee Unlimited plan lists Conversation AI, Voice AI, Reviews AI and Content AI as unlimited, which is why we used it in the table. Phone numbers and texts are still metered.

Respond.io excludes WhatsApp fees from every plan; Meta bills them by usage and you top up a balance inside respond.io. It does not charge to host a WhatsApp number. Its AI is the murkier part. One answer on its pricing page says AI usage is included at no extra cost on Growth and above under a fair use policy. Another says that past the included AI credits, on-demand credits switch on at $15 per 1,000, capped at 200 percent of the allowance. On Growth at 1,000 contacts that caps the extra AI spend at $150 a month. Get the rule that applies to you in writing.

Users and seats change the answer for bigger teams

GoHighLevel includes unlimited users on every plan. Respond.io includes 10 on Growth and charges $20 a month for each one after that. A contact center with 25 people answering messages adds $300 a month to respond.io Growth before a single contact is counted, while the GoHighLevel bill does not move. For a two-person front desk the difference is zero.

Which one should you buy?

Pick respond.io if conversations are the business: a team working WhatsApp all day, broadcast campaigns to opted-in customers, calls, or customers on channels like LINE, WeChat, Viber or Telegram. Its inbox is built for that, WhatsApp needs no add-on, and below about 1,240 active contacts a month it is the cheaper of the two with AI included.

Pick GoHighLevel if you also need the rest of the marketing stack, or you are an agency. You get the CRM, pipelines, funnels, calendars, review requests and a website builder under one login, unlimited contacts and users, and resale with your own markup on the higher plans. The cost is a steeper setup and a long list of add-ons. Each AI Employee and WhatsApp add-on is charged per sub-account, so an agency on Unlimited pays $297 plus $107 for every client that needs both.

If you choose respond.io and still need somewhere for those leads to land, you can build the website with an AI website builder rather than buying a whole marketing suite to get one.

Consider a flat AI agent if the job is narrower: answer every message, qualify the lead, book the appointment and hand the hot ones to a person, across SMS, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, web chat and email. MessageAgent Growth is $199 a month or $99 billed yearly with 5,000 AI conversations and 10 seats, with no contact tier, no AI add-on and no WhatsApp add-on. Carrier and Meta fees pass through at cost. Where we lose: we are not a funnel builder like GoHighLevel, and for high-volume WhatsApp broadcast marketing respond.io is the stronger tool. Frequently asked questions

Is respond.io cheaper than GoHighLevel?

Only at low volume. With AI included, respond.io Growth costs $159 a month billed yearly at 1,000 monthly active contacts, against about $188 for GoHighLevel Starter with its unlimited AI and WhatsApp add-ons. Above about 1,240 contacts a month respond.io costs more, reaching $449 at 10,000 contacts while GoHighLevel's subscription stays flat.

Does GoHighLevel charge extra for WhatsApp?

Yes. GoHighLevel lists its WhatsApp integration as an optional add-on at $10 a month per sub-account, and WhatsApp conversation fees are billed on top as usage. Respond.io includes WhatsApp as a native channel with no number hosting fee; Meta's message fees are paid from a balance you top up inside respond.io.

How much is GoHighLevel AI per month?

GoHighLevel sells AI Employee Growth at $50 a month with 1,000 agent responses and 100 voice AI minutes, and AI Employee Unlimited at $97 a month with unlimited Conversation AI, Voice AI, Reviews AI and Content AI. Both are charged per sub-account. You can also skip the plans and pay per token, from $0.25 per million input tokens.

Which is better for a WhatsApp business, respond.io or GoHighLevel?

For a team whose main channel is WhatsApp, respond.io. WhatsApp is native, there is no add-on fee, broadcasts and workflows are built around messaging, and calls are supported. GoHighLevel can run WhatsApp through a $10 add-on, but its strength is the CRM, funnels and automation around the conversation rather than the inbox itself.

Can I use respond.io and GoHighLevel together?

Yes. Integration services connect the two so that a new respond.io contact creates an opportunity in GoHighLevel, which some teams use to keep respond.io as the inbox and GoHighLevel as the CRM. You then pay both subscriptions, at least $159 plus $97 a month, so it only makes sense when each tool is doing a job the other cannot.

Does respond.io have unlimited contacts like GoHighLevel?

Only on Starter, which lists monthly active contacts as unlimited but has no AI Agents, broadcasts or workflows. Growth and Advanced are priced in contact tiers of 1,000, 2,500, 5,000 and 10,000, with extra contacts at $12 or $15 per 100. GoHighLevel lists unlimited contacts and unlimited users on every plan.
